Postcard from India
Caley Alanna Sharratt, MS, OTR/L, recently returned from a three month trip to India. Caley send a postcard to the OT Division stating: “Dear OT Givers of knowledge, Where I am in is very rural and very poor. Also extremely traditional in many ways. It is the only school for the handicapped and home for the majority of the students because family lives so far away. A physiotherapist used to come once a week til July. Now they don’t get therapy. I am in charge of the children who have CP and sometimes other disabilities. Kids come and kids go. It is very very different than the US. The children are wonderful though some have behavioral issues besides disabilities, but with whats happened in their lives… Mostly I’m glad I’m here. Love, Caley”
Caley has returned to the States. In an email with Department Chair Dr. Vicki Smith, Caley shared more details from her experience; “India was stressful, wonderful, frustrating, sad, and happy. The kids were absolutely amazing.” Read more
