Meet Lindsay Cohen

Lindsay Cohen

My name is Lindsay Cohen and I am an admissions counselor here at Keuka College.

I was born and raised in Rochester and graduated from Nazareth College in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology (concentration in psychology). While at Nazareth, I served as a student ambassador in the Office of Admissions, which helped me realize that I wanted a career in higher education. In 2005 I received my Master of Science degree in college student personnel administration from Canisius College. I then landed an admissions counselor position at a large public university in Virginia.

However, it wasn't long before I realized Southern living wasn't for me and wanting to be closer to my friends and family, I moved back to Western New York. This is my second year at Keuka College and I recruit in the lower Hudson Valley, New York City, Long Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Rhode Island.

I look forward to showing you all that Keuka College has to offer.

Coming soon to a town near you!

Written on March 4th, 2009 at 04:20 pm by Lindsay Cohen.

Hi Everyone!

Spring travel has begun! It’s that time of year again…. Admissions Counselors across the country have gotten back into “travel mode” as we are making our way to your hometowns to showcase our colleges.

All of us at Keuka College are ready to get back on the road to see some familiar faces as well as meet new ones.

To check and see when we are heading to your neighborhood, head to our admissions homepage, click on find your counselor, enter your zip code and state, then click on your counselor’s name. After the brief bio of the counselor, it will list our travel schedule for this spring.

Be sure to stop by and say hi-we love meeting our students and answering questions about Keuka.

Keep checking the blog in the future as I’ll write about what to expect at a college fair for those of you who are new to the college search process!

Written on January 14th, 2009 at 11:29 am by Lindsay Cohen.

Happy 2009!

Hope everyone had a safe and healthy holiday. Here at Keuka College everything is snow covered and the lake is pretty close to being completely frozen. Student’s are in the middle of their Field Period with classes not starting back up until February 2.

Admissions is busying with students finishing up their applications as our scholarship deadline is January 31. We have been getting lots of questions regarding scholarships, deadlines, enrollment and other such important issues that we have decided to host 3 more chats to answer all your questions.

Monday 1/19 1pm-4pm

Tuesday 2/17 11am-3pm

Thursday 2/19 11am-3pm

The live chats will be done via College Week Live again. Feel free to stop in, get answers to any questions you may have about Keuka and request more information if you like. I’ll be available as well as a financial aid counselor to assist with any questions you may have.

Hope to talk to you soon!

Let’s chat!

Written on December 18th, 2008 at 04:02 pm by Lindsay Cohen.

Greetings!

Well, finals ended last Wednesday 12/10 so our campus is now extremely quiet! Here at Admissions we are already missing the students.

Most of you are probably getting excited about your holiday breaks as well. Between the holiday shopping, cookie baking and visiting family and friends, I hope you will be able to attend one of our live chats that will be taking place during the break.

Tuesday 12/23 11am-3pm

and

Tuesday 12/30 11am-3pm

The chats will be done via College Week Live at:

Once you sign in, look for Keuka College in the booth index. We have a video as well as all our brochures for you to look at. If you want to chat, click on the live chat button. I will be taking questions during the day on both Tuesdays so feel free to stop in, say hi and ask me about Keuka!

Happy Holidays!

Application Review

Written on November 24th, 2008 at 02:54 pm by Lindsay Cohen.

Right now you can feel the tension in the air. It’s the end of the semester rush as students try to get papers, presentations and exams done before Thanksgiving. Senior education students are finding out their student teaching placements for the spring semester while the rest of the student body is preparing for final exams, the holiday break and their Field Periods in January.

Here in Admissions the counselors may not be in classes but we still have a stress all our own. It’s application review season! Keuka College is rolling admissions (meaning you can apply at any time) but most of our applications come in starting in November because our scholarship deadline is January 31, 2009. The pile of mail for Admissions gets larger and larger around this time of year with prospective students sending us their applications with the hope that they will eventually get accepted.

For our application process we require an application (to be done either in paper or online format) $30 application fee (which is waived if you come and tour campus) 1 letter of recommedation, the essay (found in our application) and your high school transcript. One thing that makes Keuka College stand out is that we are SAT/ACT optional meaning that you do not need to submit those scores with us if you do not want to. In place of SAT/ACT scores we suggest sending in an activity sheet or portfolio. Activity sheets and/or portfolio’s are not required but the counselors like to see one if you have it. The activity sheet and/or portfolio’s help the counselors to learn more about what you do outside of the classroom. Activity Sheets are more like a resume while the portfolio shows us what  you have accomplished over your four years of high school. The portfolio could include copies of awards won, playbills from musicals, plays, choir or concerts as well as original art work. As a counselor, we like to learn what you are involved in outside of the classroom which can also help us learn more about you as a person.  Application review can be stressful for the counselors, but I think the counselors will all agree that the best part of this process is calling our students to let them know they have been accepted to Keuka College. The reactions we get from our students are priceless and make this stressful time for Admissions all worth it.

Have a great Thanksgiving!
