My name is Lindsay Cohen and I am an admissions counselor here at Keuka College.
I was born and raised in Rochester and graduated from Nazareth College in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology (concentration in psychology). While at Nazareth, I served as a student ambassador in the Office of Admissions, which helped me realize that I wanted a career in higher education. In 2005 I received my Master of Science degree in college student personnel administration from Canisius College. I then landed an admissions counselor position at a large public university in Virginia.
However, it wasn't long before I realized Southern living wasn't for me and wanting to be closer to my friends and family, I moved back to Western New York. This is my second year at Keuka College and I recruit in the lower Hudson Valley, New York City, Long Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Rhode Island.
I look forward to showing you all that Keuka College has to offer.

Guess what happens a week from today? The Class of 2013 moves in!
Here at Keuka College our incoming freshmen class moves in 3 days earlier than everyone else, which we call Transition Week. At this time freshmen adjust to living in the residence halls, meeting new people and living away from home for the first time. During Transition Week, students are kept very busy with all sorts of activities ranging from guest speakers, group advising sessions, a game show and Teamworks! (our ropes course located behind Davis Hall.) It may be a nervous time for most freshmen, but to help with this we have mentors that the students will work with to combat any anxiety they may encounter the first few weeks of college living. The mentor’s are upperclassmen students that have become leaders in our community and are trained to assist freshmen with any issues that may come up.
So, get ready Class of 2013…we are all here waiting and excited to welcome our new family to Keuka College!

This past Saturday April 18 we held our Spring Open House. It was a warm spring day and with over 300 people in attendance, it was a huge success. Students and their families learned about what makes Keuka College so special, went to information sessions about academic programs, had a tour of campus and ended with lunch in the Geiser (our cafeteria) where current students were on hand to promote their clubs and organizations.
You can also see the day in pictures.

By now, most of you know about Keuka College’s Field Periods. Brittany wrote a few blogs about her Field Period experiences. Brandon went to Italy for his. Just to give you another example where Keuka College students are going for Field Periods…how about Walt Disney World?
Senior Garrett Zur did just that. After past Field Periods in Italy, China and working as a event planner for an upcoming music artist in his hometown, Garrett applied and was accepted into the Disney College Program.
Garrett spend this past August to January working as a cashier at the Emporium, located on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom.
Garrett’s favorite park? The Magic Kingdom. His favorite ride? Toy Story in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Favorite Disney Movie? The Lion King.
Check out Garrett’s story here.

Hi Everyone,
Here at Keuka College, most of the admissions counselors spring travel revolves around college fairs. Some may be at high schools (often called college nights and takes place in the gym or cafeteria) and others may be a national college fair…the kind that may involve a school field trip to a local convention center. National college fairs, offered through NACAC, can be extremely overwhelming to those who are new to the college search process. Here are some tips to make sure you have the best and most productive time at a college fair.
-
Before the fair, make note of schools you want to see. Most times there will be a list of participating colleges available before the actual fair online or your guidance office may have a listing.
-
Research those particular schools before the fair, so you have specific questions for each school.
-
Once at the fair, start at the schools you want information from or have questions for. Many fairs are at least 2 hours giving you plenty of time to check out other schools and wander the aisles.
-
Figure out what questions are most important for you to ask. Examples could be a particular major, cost, application process, and housing options.
-
The front rows get especially busy in the beginning of the fair. Starting with the last rows and working your way to the front may mean you won’t stand in line waiting to speak to a counselor that is overcrowded with people when the fair first starts.
-
Put your best face forward when speaking to an admissions counselor. Many of us are the ones who will be sending you information, reading your application and helping you while you conduct your college search. You’ll be surprised as to what (and whom!) we remember from college fairs.
-
Bring address labels to use instead of writing out inquiry cards for more information. Sometimes we can’t read your handwriting clearly which means we can’t send you info. Many students use their return address labels while others make labels that also list their intended major, graduation year, email and high school.
And finally have fun at a college fair. Admissions counselors attend college fairs to get your questions answered and to get you excited about attending college. Don’t be afraid to come back a second time if you thought of another question. That’s what we are there for!
